Dell, which was founded in 1984 by Michael Dell, has become one of the world’s leading suppliers of computer hardware such as desktop computers, laptops and notebooks. As a matter of fact Dell was the fourth largest supplier of personal computers, both desktop and laptop computers, in South Africa in 2007.
Dell laptops, which are ideal for people who travel a lot and wish to be on top of their business at all time, have evolved since the company presented it very first range of laptop computer in 1989. Two years later, the company announced its first laptop with a colour screen. This portable computer, known as the 325NC, ran at a speed of 25MHZ, and came at a price of $4500. Today would come down to approximately 35.000 rand.
Over the past years, Dell laptops have improved significantly and continuously, in both design and speed as well as user friendliness. These days, Dell’s laptops and notebooks come with optional features such as integrated web cam, wi-fi technology for connecting to wireless Internet networks, mobile broadband, a blue tooth reader, and a finger print scanner.
Dell has produced various laptop families, of which the Dell Inspiron range is the most popular. These computers are built for everyday use and available in different colors. The company has furthermore produced a range of Notebooks. These computers have smaller screens and smaller keyboard size when compared to regular laptops, are lighter in weight and are therefore ultra portable and have become ultra popular.
