Some companies maintain a laser focus on one thing. Enzo Ferrari loved to talk about how his company made engines that happened to be attached to wheels. His singular focus was building the best racing engines in the world.
Marathon’s client Freedom to Marry has been devoted to achieving marriage equality in America since 2003 and has announced that it will begin to wind down operations later this year with the recent Supreme Court decision making marriage for same-sex couples legal in all 50 states.
Freedom to Marry had a singular goal and a smart understanding of what it would take to win that drove its strategy since 2003. Evan Wolfson, the organization’s founder, realized that keeping that focus would do the most to hasten the win for Freedom to Marry and the win for America. He and his team now find themselves as the “happiest unemployed people in the country” according to their director of digital action.
We admire that Freedom to Marry set a clear and specific goal for their organization, worked hard in a very strategic way to achieve that goal, and is now “dropping the mic” after attaining their objective.
Congratulations to everyone at Freedom to Marry on crossing the finish line and we wish them luck as they begin the next chapter in their careers. You’ve got a wonderful reason to hang a rainbow themed “going out of business” sign in the window.
